Set in the Paris end of Melbourne city, the Windsor is nestled in a beautiful historic district of alfresco dining, theatres, restaurants and bars. Built in the Victorian era (1883), it is the only grand hotel of its kind, with striking Victorian architecture. A few doors away is the Princess Theatre, with gardens and parks just across. Parliament Train Station is located beneath the hotel, and tram stops flank its sides, making it a convenient point of access for the city's attractions including the National Gallery of Victoria, the Melbourne Museum, Royal Exhibition Building, and the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Chinatown and the city's major department stores are just a short walk away. This 142-year icon is classic, but has modern facilities, and is best known for its outstanding Afternoon Tea. It is also part of a group of award-winning modern restaurants.
